Cruyff Court Velsen - Noord, courtesy of the UEFA Foundation and the Municipality of Velsen, has been opened! A long-cherished wish of young people and residents of Velsen-Noord to have more sports and playgrounds has finally come true.
The neighborhood was therefore en masse present to witness the festive opening of the new Cruyff Court. Alderman Bram Diepstraten, former Telstar player and currently youth coach at AFC Ajax, Frank Korpershoek and Desmond Post of the Cruyff Foundation led the official part. After that it was time for a game of soccer, old Dutch games and a bouncy castle for the youngest youth.
Cruyff Court Velsen-Noord is located in a deprived area and part of a park. The entire park has undergone an upgrade; new paths have been laid, additional greenery has been added such as trees and bushes and a new water tap is being installed.
Boys, girls, young and old, youth workers and the Sportloket Velsen are looking forward to the activities that will be organized weekly on this Court, but of course from now on… unorganized sports can be enjoyed any time of the day! This fall, the local professionals will take the Cruyff Foundation Coach training to inspire them to organize sports activities and coach children and young people in a 'Cruyffian way', both on and off the Cruyff Court.
A lack of safe places to play sports, as was the case in Velsen- Noord, causes boredom resulting in numerous adverse social consequences such as crime. This safe place to play sports was therefore incredibly welcome!
Cruyff Court Velsen - Noord was funded by the UEFA Foundation for Children.
