The 9th edition of the Cruyff Legacy 14K was one for the books. A record number of almost 7,500 runners and walkers gathered at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Sunday to support the Johan Cruyff Foundation. Together, they raised the impressive amount of €776,435 for sports projects for children with special needs. And the counter is still running!
From young to old, passionate runners to enthusiastic walkers - the atmosphere was incredible throughout the entire day. Participants could choose between the 14K, 5K, or Kids Run. There was a suitable route for every age and every level.
Nearly a thousand children gave it their all during the Kids Run. Cheered on loudly, they ran their own laps alongside the holy grass of the Johan Cruijff ArenA, encouraged by family, friends, and a few special guests. Paralympic wheelchair basketball champion Bo Kramer was there to support the young participants and celebrate their athletic achievements.
Many familiar faces lined the route. Among them were ambassadors Frank Rijkaard, Najib Amhali, Marlou van Rhijn and also Jordi Cruyff was present. He cheered on the participants with enthusiasm: “It’s so beautiful to see how many people are committed to the Foundation and to children for whom sports are not a given. This event keeps growing every year, and that makes me proud. This is exactly what my father stood for.”
The 14K route passed by locations that played a significant role in Johan Cruyff’s life - including Betondorp, and the iconic Cruyff Court that symbolises his vision.
The Cruyff Legacy 14K has grown into much more than just a sporting event: it has become an annual tribute to Johan Cruyff’s legacy and a major fundraising initiative. Thanks to this event, even more sportsprojects can be made possible for children for whom sport isn’t a guaranteed part of their lives.
With this successful and inspiring day, the Cruyff Legacy 14K once again showed the power of sport. A day full of energy, inspiration, and impact; just as Johan Cruyff would have wanted it.
